Flywheel slicers: a history of more than 100 years

Did you know that Berkel slicers originated in Holland more than a century ago? It is 1898 when Wilhelmus Andrianus Van Berkel, an inquisitive butcher with a passion for mechanics, designs a machine to cut meat faster and without the use of a knife.

Thus, the first mechanical slicer was born and, within a year, the Berkel company was founded, which grew year after year, establishing itself as a trend-setting, quality brand. Berkel flywheel slicers were the company’s flagship in the 1960s: they were beautiful, they had character and style, so much so that they became collectors’ items for fans of the genre;
